Course Gear Lists & Orders
Many of the items on the gear lists (below) are available and can be preordered at our online store. These items are noted in the chart on your gear list under the column labeled "BOSS Store." Your preordered gear will be waiting for you in Boulder. Email store@boss-inc.com with any questions about your order or items on the gear list.
Online Store
- Select the "Pickup in Store" option upon checkout.
- We organize preordered gear for pickup on your course start date at BOSS.
- If you wish to ship your gear before your course, additional charges may apply.
- A confirmation email will be sent once the order is received.
- International Participants: Please email your pre-order to store@boss-inc.com and include your course code and start date.

Notify your Bank: If you intend to use your credit or debit card to make purchases at our store day-of, please notify your bank that you will be traveling with the card.

The BOSS campus is located at the north end of Boulder, UT on Highway 12, specifically at mile 87.2. The entrance to the property is on the west side of the road and is marked by a rock wall and sign. There will be a BOSS sign covering the "615 North" sign, and a staff member to greet you at check-in time.

Flying & Shuttle Itinerary
Shuttle service to and from the Holiday Inn & Suites Salt Lake City Airport West. Order your shuttle in your student portal ($300 round trip).

Travel & Insurance Form - Required Activity
To help us prepare for your course, we require information about your travel plans and health insurance. Health insurance is a requirement for participation in a BOSS course. Even if you do not end up planning to purchase travel insurance, you must complete this form in your portal.
Travel Insurance
BOSS strongly recommends getting travel insurance for your course. There are many things out of your control that could cause you to miss your course (sickness, travel issues, family emergencies, etc.), and BOSS cannot make exceptions for cancellations made due to personal and medical emergencies. Travel insurance will help ensure you don’t wind up paying for a course you can’t take. Divers Alert Network (DAN) or World Nomads are both good options.
Training for BOSS
We require all participants to train for their BOSS experience. If you do not properly prepare for the Field Expedition, Hunter Gatherer, Navigator, Skills, or Primitive Living Intensive courses, you are adding significant risk and potentially endangering lives. Our instructors may excuse you from a course if you are deemed incapable of safely meeting the physical and mental challenges, especially if it adds unnecessary risk.
When developing your training schedule, consider that you’ll be walking with a pack at high altitude and in heat. Our operating area isn’t flat so your training shouldn’t be either. If you run or bike, train on hills. If you train in a gym, use the stair machine in a gym instead of only a treadmill. Also, be careful when you train to avoid injuries. The last thing you want to do is to have your preparations sideline you for your course. We recommend stopping intensive training two weeks before our course.

We strongly recommend against trying to acclimate to any potential for water stress. Trying to get your body used to being in a dehydrated state or over-hydrating before the course can lead to extremely dire situations both out of and in the field.
The Run
Field Course, Navigator, and Hunter-Gatherer students will be asked to run 1.5 miles the Sunday afternoon of orientation. Primitive Living Intensive participants will complete a short hike during orientation. Feel free to bring running shoes, which can be stored on the property while you're out in the field.

Health & Physical Exam Forms
Instructions:

Complete your Health Questionnaire in your student portal. The data here will be used to create your Health & Physical Exam form. If you need to make any updates, simply login and enter the updated information into your Health Questionnaire.

Click on Download/Upload your Health & Physical Exam form.

Print this form and take it with you to your physical exam. Your physician must read through all the information you’ve filled out and sign off in their section of the form.

Once your doctor signs off on the form, you will need to combine the pages into one document (PDF) and upload that document to your student portal.
NOTE: For any updates to your health after you've submitted your form (injuries, new medications, etc.), contact admissions@boss-inc.com ASAP.
Additional Health Information
Personal Hygiene: Menstruation and vulva care in the backcountry deserves special consideration and management. It can be summarized as staying dry, clean, and hydrated. Download our Backcountry Hygiene guide for more details about what we require you to bring and what will be provided by BOSS.
