A New Chapter.

2018 was BOSS’s 50th anniversary season. And on the cusp of that momentous occasion, we announced that BOSS was transitioning to become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

We made this leap for a number of reasons, the biggest one being we want to amplify our Positive Impact on the world. Schools like BOSS are a benefit to society, which is why they are given tax-exempt status from the IRS, allowed to take in tax-deductible donations, and apply for grants. These are huge advantages, and when it comes to our mission, we want to leave no stone unturned.

BOSS has never been a big money-maker, and that’s never been the point. We feel that nonprofit status sets the school up to do what we do best:

The Boulder Outdoor Survival School is dedicated to the instruction and preservation of traditional living skills and the development of people through experiences within the natural world.

Perhaps more than ever, human beings need to connect to the natural world. We know this, which has always presented a conundrum.  We don’t spam your inbox or clamor for your attention to upsell you stuff you don’t need. In fact, in a way, we exist to restore the human attention span and show how little one really needs to be happy.

Our long term goals? To offer more tuition assistance to a wider audience, to expand our program offerings, and to invest in the infrastructure we need: staff, legal, accounting, technology and communications, to become everything we can be as a school.

We want to offer a huge thank you to the donors that have made each year a success at BOSS since the nonprofit transition. And ask this:

If BOSS had a Positive Impact on you, we ask that you Donate Today. Your donation is 100% tax-deductible, and funds will go directly to running programs like the one you remember.

The Hero’s Journey is not supposed to be easy, but it is not made without help, either.

You have all our gratitude for the last fifty years. Here’s to fifty more.

In love, and adventure, The BOSS Staff
