We have always believed that BOSS should be accessible to anyone capable of the challenge. And we’ve known that for some people, attending a BOSS course is just slightly out of reach financially. So in 2015, with the support of a small army of dedicated BOSS alumni, BOSS Instructors Jessica Ewing and Laurel Holding established the first-ever BOSS Scholarship fund. Since then we have been awarding grants to students demonstrating financial need and strong merit. To assist these candidates with attending the school, BOSS offers the following discounts:
For any questions about scholarships, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Alumni Discount: BOSS alumni receive 10% off all future BOSS courses (excluding Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness First Responder Recertification, and Slickrock Gathering courses).
Military Discount: All veterans and active military receive a 10% discount (excluding Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness First Responder Recertification, and Slickrock Gathering courses).
Outdoor Guides Discount: Currently employed outdoor industry professionals receive 20% off their BOSS course (Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness First Responder Recertification, and Slickrock Gathering courses excluded). Proof of paid, current employment must be provided to BOSS. Employment must be with a client-based guide service company (i.e., outfitter, wilderness school, etc.). For more information, please contact us.
In addition to the discounts listed above, BOSS currently offers three different scholarships to assist with tuition reduction for people who need it. See a list of our past scholarship recipients.
Our most flexible grant. BOSS Grants are offered in $500, $750, and $1000 increments and can be applied to any BOSS Field or Skills course.
For the 2018 season, you have up to three opportunities to apply. However, when the funding is gone, it’s gone! So if you want to take a course in 2018 and need financial aid, you should apply as soon as possible. Don’t wait until the third and final deadline, as there is a chance all funding will be distributed in the first and second rounds.
Deadline #1: March 25. Winners announced April 1
Deadline #2: May 6. Winners announced May 12
Deadline #3 (if necessary): May 20. Winners announced May 27
A special scholarship sponsored by a BOSS alumnus, Nikhil Bhatla, for our signature 28-Day Field Course. This scholarship is designed for students who may need more significant financial aid to attend our most expensive course. For courses in 2018 the deadline to apply is April 28. The winner will be announced May 7.
To apply for a Boulder grant, you must be a resident of Boulder, Utah. A Boulder grant does not have a specific dollar amount. It depends on the needs of the resident to attend BOSS.
